A legendary duo departs: Station manager and Bolt the cat say goodbye to Huddersfield station
After a long and dedicated career in the rail industry, Angela Hunte (known as Angie), station manager for Huddersfield and Dewsbury, has officially retired from TransPennine Express (TPE) on Friday 4 July— and she wasn’t alone.
Also hanging up his collar is Huddersfield’s beloved station cat Bolt.
The pair’s retirement was marked at the station, with fond farewells from staff and customers, sharing their memories from over the years.
Angie’s career in the rail industry has spanned 35 years, during which she has become a well-known and well-loved figure across West Yorkshire.
Her leadership, warmth, and unwavering dedication helped shape a welcoming environment for customers and staff alike.
Reflecting on her time in the industry, Angie said: “It’s been an incredible journey, and I feel so lucky to have spent my career doing something I love, surrounded by amazing colleagues and customers.
“The railway has always felt like a second family to me — and of course, sharing it with Felix and Bolt has made it even more special.
“I’ll miss the buzz of station life, but I’m looking forward to new adventures and spending time with my family.”
In addition to managing the day-to-day of running busy stations, Angie has also worked alongside a rather unique colleague.
Bolt joined the Huddersfield team in 2018 as an apprentice to former famous station cat Felix, and quickly made a name for himself.
The feline duo became international stars — featuring in two books and an annual charity calendar, with their efforts helping to raise more than £266,000 for charitable causes.
The cats’ popularity transcended the Pennines, with visitors from around the world making special trips to Huddersfield station just to meet the famous duo.
Felix and Bolt had their own Facebook page which received more than 24 million views each year, making them two of the most famous felines on the railway.
Andrew McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director said: “Angie’s leadership has left a lasting legacy across our stations. Her calm professionalism, genuine care for others, and unwavering dedication have made a profound impact on both colleagues and customers.
“Bolt, in his own unique way, has brought comfort and a smile to many after having been raised at the station from a kitten and mentored by his predecessor, Felix, who was our Senior Pest Controller.
“Angie and Bolt’s retirement close a wonderful chapter in the history of Huddersfield station, and they will be sincerely missed. We wish them both the very best in their well-earned retirement.”
Angie plans to spend her well-earned retirement enjoying family life with her young grandchild. Bolt, meanwhile, will be settling into a cosy new home with station team leader Jacqui — alongside his pal Buddy will continues to enjoy plenty of company and cuddles in his next chapter. But he will be back to visit all his friends at Huddersfield station every so often.
