A warm welcome to Malton: TPE serves up local flavours at food festival
Passengers arriving at Malton station last weekend were treated to a taste of Yorkshire as TransPennine Express (TPE) joined forces with The Original Baker to celebrate the town’s renowned food festival.
Festival-goers heading to Malton Food Festival on Saturday 24 May were welcomed with complimentary samples at the station, from The Original bakery’s delicious range, including the crowd-favourite hog roast sausage roll – a staple of TPE’s First Class menu: TransPennine Kitchen: Coast to Coast, available on services between Liverpool and Newcastle.
Also on offer were pork and stilton sausage rolls, rich ginger cakes and indulgent brownies, giving customers a flavour of the high-quality products The Original Baker produces in Malton.
Customers were also able to meet representatives from the RNLI, TPE’s new charity partner, who attended the event to raise awareness and collect donations for their lifesaving work at sea.
Since February 2025, TPE has worked in partnership with Malton-based The Original Baker to bring handcrafted, locally made food to passengers across the North.
Andrew McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director said: “We’re proud to support brilliant local businesses like The Original Baker and to be part of such a vibrant community celebration in Malton.
“Whether it’s welcoming passengers to the festival or serving these delicious products onboard, we’re focused on making every journey something to look forward to.”
The event marked the train operator’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and showcasing regional producers through its onboard catering.
A spokesperson for The Original Baker said: "We’re proud to have partnered with TransPennine Express at this year’s Malton Food Lovers Festival – a celebration of Yorkshire’s rich food heritage.
