Books on board: TPE invites customers to take a moment for a good story this World Mental Health Day

TransPennine Express (TPE) is encouraging customers to turn their next train journey into a little time for themselves, with free books available on board this week on their services from Manchester Airport to mark World Mental Health Day on Saturday 10 October.

Whether it’s a few pages on the way to work or a chapter on a journey to see friends, the giveaway is an invitation to pause, settle into a seat and get lost in a good story.

Donated by The Reading Agency, the Quick Reads books are short books by bestselling authors, designed to make reading more accessible and help people discover, or rediscover, the pleasure of a good story.

Customers can look out for free copies of books such as (The Last Summer by Karen Swan and The Black Mountain by Kate Mosse.  to enjoy while travelling and take away to finish at home.

With everyday life often leaving little room for a breather, World Mental Health Day is a reminder to make time for our wellbeing.

For those who enjoy reading, a train journey can offer a chance to put down their phone, step away from the to-do list and spend a little time with a book.

Quick Reads can also help build reading confidence, particularly for people who find longer books overwhelming or are getting back into reading after a break.

Darren Higgins, Commercial Director for TPE, said: “A train journey is a great opportunity to take a moment for yourself and get lost in a good story.

“We’re pleased to be working with The Reading Agency to share these books with our customers and encourage more people to make reading part of their everyday lives.”

The giveaway follows TPE’s support for this summer’s Summer Reading Challenge, alongside other train operators, encouraging families to enjoy reading on their journeys.

In September, TPE also celebrated the opening of a children’s Book Nook at Thirsk station, one of two donated by Hachette UK through its Raising Readers initiative, with a second at Malton.
