Huddersfield station takes centre stage in More4 TV Series

Huddersfield railway station is stepping into the spotlight as it features prominently in the opening episode of Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations, a new More4 series celebrating the history and character of some of the UK’s most cherished rail hubs.

Managed by TransPennine Express, it is described as resembling a stately home more than a transport interchange. The programme explores Huddersfield station’s grand neoclassical façade, rich architectural heritage and enduring role at the heart of the town’s identity.

Architect and presenter Damion Burrows guides viewers through the station’s past and present, reflecting on why it remains such an iconic landmark.

“This is more than a station,” he says in the episode. “It’s grand, imposing, it’s making a statement.”

As part of the show, Burrows is given an exclusive look behind the scenes at the station’s ongoing £70 million redevelopment programme, which aims to carefully preserve its historic features while upgrading passenger facilities for the future as part of the TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU).

TRU is a major, multi-billion-pound programme of railway improvements which will bring better journeys to passengers travelling across the Pennines between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.

The series highlights the meticulous work being carried out to protect the building’s original character, from its sweeping colonnaded frontage to its ornate interior detailing, all while modernising the station to meet the needs of today’s travellers.

Scott Goddard, Area Customer Experience Manager at Huddersfield station, said: “It’s fantastic to see Huddersfield take centre stage and we’re proud of the work going on to preserve the station’s unique history while creating a better experience for everyone who uses it.

“TRU will bring better journeys to passengers travelling across the Pennines between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.”

Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations is available on More4, with Huddersfield starring in the very first episode of the new series.
