Sheffield TPE train driver to run seven marathons in seven days for men's mental health charity

A TransPennine Express (TPE) train driver from Sheffield is taking on an extraordinary seven‑day endurance feat of more than 190 miles across the country in aid of a men’s mental health charity.

Lee Bennett is currently six days into the challenge – running from St Bees on the west coast of England to Filey on the east coast to raise cash for Andy’s Man Club.

Setting off from the Cumbrian coastline, Lee has pushed through steep climbs, remote moorland, and unpredictable spring weather, clocking up marathon after marathon as he makes his way toward Yorkshire’s eastern shores.

Andy’s Man Club is a men’s charity offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online.

Despite the punishing mileage, spirits remain high as messages of support pour in from friends, colleagues, and strangers cheering him on.

Ian Watson, Driver Manager at TransPennine Express and advocate for Andy’s Man Club, said: “Lee’s achievement is nothing short of incredible. It’s not just a physical challenge, it’s a message of hope and strength for anyone struggling. We couldn’t be prouder.”

Lee is documenting the entire journey on social media, where followers can watch his daily updates.

TransPennine Express unveiled a specially wrapped train dedicated to the mental health charity in 2023. The Class 185 train is visible throughout the north, encouraging people to seek help when they need it.

Members of the public can follow Lee’s progress on Instagram and Facebook at @coast2coastlad, where he shares videos from the trail and updates from each stage of the run.
