Young train enthusiast enjoys behind-the-scenes visit to Newcastle depot
A young train enthusiast has been treated to a special behind-the-scenes experience at TransPennine Express’ (TPE) Newcastle depot.
Nine-year-old Mylo from Durham visited the depot with his mum, Kellie Muir, for an exclusive look at railway operations and to meet some of the TPE team who keep the railway moving.
Mylo, who has autism, is passionate about trains and shares his love for them online as a popular TikTok creator with thousands of followers.
After learning about his enthusiasm for the railway, TPE arranged a VIP visit led by Area Customer Experience Manager, JJ Fletcher.
During the visit, Mylo was given a tour of the depot before being joined by TPE’s Conductor of the Year, Matty Walton, and trainee conductor Nathan Whale, who showed him how crews set up trains ahead of departure and prepare for service.
The experience continued onboard a Class 802 Nova 1 train and Mylo travelled on the 13:02 service from Newcastle.
JJ Fletcher, Area Customer Experience Manager for TPE, said: "It was an absolute pleasure to show TikTok star Mylo around Newcastle depot with his mum and give him a behind-the-scenes tour of life on the railway.
“Seeing his excitement and passion for trains made it a very special visit for everyone involved.”
Mylo added: “I had the best day seeing the depot and going on a TPE train.”
