Pennine Pale

Cheers to Pennine Pale! TPE's very own IPA beer now available on-board

TransPennine Express (TPE) has partnered with Leeds-based brewery Northern Monk to introduce 'Pennine Pale' as part of its new menu offering.

The bespoke beer has been specially created for customers travelling on TPE services and is described as a crisp and refreshing 4.1% session IPA, craft brewed with northern pride and bursting with hoppy citrus fruit flavours.

Presented in a special grey and purple can, the design features well-known destinations from across the rail operator’s network from Liverpool to York. A QR code is also included, providing further information about the partnership and images of the locations the train operator serves across the North and Scotland.

Pennine Pale is available every day after 11am and is available in First-Class, as part of TPE's two First-Class menus: West Coast Kitchen and Express Plus.

For customers travelling in standard class, Northern Monk’s Faith hazy pale ale can be purchased through the Express Café menu.

The new summer menu marks the first change in food and beverage options since the launch of the West Coast Kitchen earlier this year.

The new IPA beer is featured in the enhanced catering menu for West Coast Kitchen. The updated summer menu offers more delights for customers, with a widened range of products for First-Class travellers on services between Manchester/Liverpool, Lancashire, Cumbria, and Scotland.

From locally sourced 'TPE Regional Breakfast' to jerk chicken, basmati rice with mango salsa to pea, mint, and asparagus risotto, there is something for everyone to enjoy onboard.

The menu includes some lighter options, especially around breakfast, including traditional crumpets and spiced fruit teacakes.

And for those travelling on the weekend, chicken with sautéed baby potatoes is available, complete with savoy cabbage and bacon creamy sauce.

Kathryn O'Brien, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TransPennine Express, said: “We are really proud to partner with Leeds-based brewery Northern Monk to offer a refreshing beer that has been created just for our customers, that is inspired by the destinations we serve across the North of England and Scotland.”

"We have worked hard to improve our catering offering, particularly in First Class, to bring our customers an experience in line with what they expect and deserve when travelling on a premium service."

Sophie Ballard, National Sales Manager at Northern Monk, said: “We’re delighted that TPE passengers will be able to enjoy our Pennine Pale while on their journeys across the North and Scotland. We’ve worked closely with TPE to get the beer on track, and we think people will really enjoy it.”
