TPE adds more services to support national Armed Forces celebrations in Cleethorpes this weekend

TransPennine Express (TPE) will be running extra services and providing more seats this weekend to support customers travelling to Cleethorpes for Armed Forces Day.

The popular three-day event, recently chosen as the national celebration, will take place from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 June and is expected to draw large crowds to the coastal town, with trains expected to be very busy throughout the weekend.  

To support those heading to the event, the train company will operate an additional 26 services between Grimsby Town and Cleethorpes on both the Saturday and Sunday, helping provide more seats, throughout the day.

With services expected to be much busier than usual, passengers should plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

Customers are also advised to check the last train times for services, as evening services are set to be especially busy.

Andrew McClements, Customer Experience and Transformation Director for TPE, said: “Armed Forces Day is a fantastic event that brings communities together in celebration and remembrance.

“We’re proud to support the national celebrations by arranging more trains for visitors, but trains are still going to be exceptionally busy and, we’re asking customers to plan ahead and give themselves plenty of time when travelling.”

The first shuttle service on both days will depart Grimsby at 9.53am, with the last service from Cleethorpes at 6.01pm on Saturday and 6.33pm on Sunday.

A number of services will also be strengthened to six carriages between Liverpool and Manchester to Cleethorpes, providing more seats for those travelling from further afield.
