TPE introduces baby on board badges to support pregnant customers

New badges will help expectant mothers signal when they may need a seat while travelling.

TransPennine Express (TPE) is introducing baby on board badges across its network, helping pregnant customers more easily access support during their journeys.

The badges, which will be available from stations and carried by conductors as part of their everyday equipment, allow expectant mothers to indicate that they may need a seat or extra consideration while travelling.

The initiative is designed to make journeys more comfortable and inclusive, particularly for customers whose pregnancy may not yet be visible to others.

Travelling while pregnant can sometimes be challenging, especially on busy services when seats may be limited. The baby on board badge provides a clear and simple way for customers to signal they may benefit from additional support, without needing to ask directly.

The scheme also helps other customers identify when someone may need assistance, encouraging small acts of kindness that can make a significant difference to someone's journey.

Andy McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TPE, said: "We're committed to creating a railway that is welcoming and accessible for everyone. Our baby on board badges offer a simple and discreet way for pregnant customers to let others know they may need a seat or a little extra support while travelling.

"It may seem like a small gesture, but it can have a big impact on a customer's confidence and comfort while travelling with us. We're looking forward to seeing the badges in use across the network and hearing about the difference they make."

TPE is also encouraging customers to look out for the badges and, where possible, consider offering a seat to anyone displaying one.
