Winter warmers: TransPennine Express launches First Class seasonal menu
From chicken stuffed with haggis smothered in a rich whisky sauce to a vegan nut roast, there is something for everyone to enjoy onboard TransPennine Express during the winter months as the train operator launches its new seasonal menu.
The new menu marks the second change in food and drink options since the launch of West Coast Kitchen earlier this year.
Classic sausage and mash with caramelised onion gravy is also on the table, as well as a nourishing dish of whole grains, beans and vegetables.
Customers can warm up with a hot chocolate, made along TPE’s route across the Lake District by Farrer’s, who also provide tea and coffee onboard.
The menu also includes some lighter options, especially around breakfast, including traditional crumpets and spiced fruit teacakes. Sausage rolls baked by Pie Demand at Carlisle station are a firm favourite with passengers, and a vegan option is available.
West Coast Kitchen is available for customers travelling First Class between Manchester or Liverpool to Edinburgh or Glasgow along the West Coast while TPE’s Express Plus Menu can be found on the rest of the train operator’s services.
Earlier this year, TransPennine Express also launched its own bespoke beer in partnership with Leeds-based brewery Northern Monk.
Called TransPennine Pale, it has been specially created for customers travelling on TPE services and is described as a crisp and refreshing 4.1% session IPA, craft brewed with northern pride and bursting with hoppy citrus fruit flavours.
The ale is available every day after 11am and is available in First Class, as part of TPE's two First-Class menus: West Coast Kitchen and Express Plus.
Kathryn O'Brien, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TransPennine Express, said: “We hope our customers enjoy our new menu which offers hearty winter warmers and nourishing dishes for the cold winter months as well as tasty snacks.
"We have worked hard to improve our catering offering, particularly in First Class, to bring our customers an experience in line with what they expect and deserve when travelling on a premium service."
